Ms Jiang researched the development of gold nanoparticles as functional materials to develop improved bioanalytical techniques. Her work has developed two immunoassays utilizing gold nanoparticles for selective and sensitive detection of small biomolecules. Her research showed that one assay can detect steroid in urinary samples of pregnancy and has potential to be commercialized, and the other assay can detect the same analyte in any urine sample based on its high sensitivity. Her research also demonstrated that chemically modified gold nanoparticles possess strong light scattering properties with unique spectral signatures. These spectral signatures may be used to further improve the assays developed in her earlier work.
