A study of the Industry/University/Government (UIG) collaborative project organisation

The participants of University, Industry and Government cross-sector collaborative projects have reported difficulties when working together, known as the cultural gap. Several key barriers to effective collaboration have been previously documented. Ms Skelton built on this work and developed a comprehensive and contextualised framework for each sector to facilitate collaboration. A multilevel approach was used with both team members and key informants and across project phases and constraints. The study found nine main themes and sixteen subthemes that describe the tensions between the sectors. The study also measured the perceived ability of the collaborations to capture growth over time. The themes were then categorised as contributors or influencers to the collaboration, with their impact mapped against pre-project, project, and post-project phases in a framework for use by the parties involved in the UIG.
