Matthew Kean
Senior Tutor
School of PsychologyI am a Senior Tutor in the School of Psychology at Massey University, primarily situated within the EPIC cluster. My research interests include community development, subjectivity and belonging, with a particular focus on supporting community organisations within the family violence sector develop ethical practices supporting men’s processes of change towards non-violence. Born in Michigan in the United States, I lived in the UK for a few years before migrating to New Zealand in 2006, and now call Aotearoa home. My professional career includes working with young people in residential psychiatric settings, and adults experiencing brain injuries, chronic mental health concerns, and substance misuse issues, in the US, UK, and NZ. I worked with Ara Poutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections in a variety of senior manager, policy and practitioner roles before returning to study as a mature student at Massey University, where I completed my BSc, MSc, and PhD.
