Prof Andrew Worth BVSc, PGDipVCLinSc, PhD

Professor of Small Animal Surgery

School of Veterinary Science

Andrew graduated from Massey University in 1990 and has worked in both Australia, the UK and NZ as a small animal veterinarian. In 1999 he completed membership examination of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientist in Veterinary Radiology. From 2000-2003 he completed a residency in small animal surgery at the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and he became a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2006. He is currently Professor of Small Animal Surgery and a Registered NZ Specialist in Small Animal Surgery at the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

His research interests include degenerative orthopaedic disease, lumbosacral disease and the use of computer assisted surgery and 3D printing in providing patient-specific solutions for veterinary patients.

He has over 60 publications in the peer-reviewed literature (H-index 16) and has presented at conferences all around the world.

Andrew teaches both undergraduates in the BVSc program as well as intern/resident post-grads and has trained 5 residents to specialist credentialing.

He has been chief subject examiner to the Australian and NZ College of Veterinary Surgeons

He is currently the convenor of the NZVA/DogzNZ Elbow Dysplasia Scheme

He is a co-director and founding member of the Massey University Working Dog Centre.

Research Interests

Has published 28 articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at veterinary conferences in Europe, Asia, the US and Australia. His current research interests include working dog orthopaedic disease, lumbosacral degeneration and biomaterials for surgery. His clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery and advanced surgical technologies. Andrew is the convenor for the NVZA Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Panels and co-Director of the Centre for Working and Service Dog Health.
