Harvey is a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Finance at Massey Business School. Harvey received a Ph.D. in Finance from Monash University, Australia where he was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Commendation for Thesis Excellence. His research interests are corporate governance, sustainable finance, behavioral finance, and capital markets, with recent works focusing on climate change and capital markets, insider transactions, credit risk, labor finance, corporate social responsibility, and financial accounting. Harvey has published in internationally recognized journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Markets, and Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money. His research has been presented at over 60 major conferences and won several Best Paper Awards, such as the winner of the Boyle, Lally, and Rose Prize/Trophy for the Best Overall Paper at the 2020 New Zealand Finance Colloquium, the NZX Best Paper Award for Outstanding Research with Practical Implications to Capital Markets in 2021, and the CFA Institute ARX Best Paper Awards in 2022 and 2023. Harvey has won a number of competitive research grants (such as the AFAANZ Research Grant, Strategic Research Excellence Fund, Massey University REaDI Fund, MURF Grant, and Industry Grant). Harvey was the Winner of the Massey University College Research Distinction Award- Early Career in 2021.

Harvey is the Director of Doctoral Studies (School of Economics and Finance- Auckland campus), Deputy Director of Massey University's Sustainability and CSR Research Group, and Finance Research Seminar Coordinator (School of Economics and Finance- Auckland campus). Harvey serves as the Associate Editor/ Guest Editor/ Editorial Board Member of a number of journals. He is a member of the American Finance Association (AFA), Western Finance Association (WFA), European Finance Association (EFA), Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ), SAS User Group, and Vietnamese Finance Association (VFAI), and Massey University MPOWER Research Group. He has served in the Ph.D. Confirmation Committee for 5 other Ph.D. students and has been an examiner/assessor for over 60 Ph.D./ Master dissertations. His research students published in internationally recognized finance journals and won prestigious research awards, such as the Best Ph.D. Paper Award at the New Zealand Finance Colloquium.
