Senior Lecturer in Finance
Doctoral Co-Supervisor School of Accountancy, Economics and FinanceAs a Senior Lecturer in Finance, Dr. Mei Qiu works span teaching, research, supervision and administration and services. She has taught corporate finance, international finance, financial planning, financial modelling, and financial asset management courses, at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels. She also supervise PhD and master’s research students, act as a faculty advisor for the MBS Student Investment Fund.
Dr. Qiu's research focuses on empirical corporate finance and market efficiency, with particular interest in how firm characteristics and economic or geopolitical uncertainty shape corporate productivity and financial decisions. Her broader interests include market reactions to information, foreign exchange predictability, and regulatory and institutional effects on the global financial markets. Overall, her work enhances understanding of how corporations, investors, and financial markets respond to risk, uncertainty, and structural shocks, with practical and policy relevance. She has published in high ranked international journals including Journal of International Money and Finance, Energy Economics, International Review of Economics and Finance, China Economic Review, Economics Letters, Applied Economics, International Journal of the Economics of Business, and International Journal of Managerial Finance.
Before joining Massey University, Mei worked in the financial industry in China taking various roles including financial analyst, investment advisor, fund manager and manager of the trading department.
Dr. Mei Qiu earned her PhD in Finance (Massey University) in 2006. She is experienced in teaching and researching in the fields of investment, corporate finance and international finance. Before joining Massey, she worked in the financial industry in China after being awarded her first degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Zhejiang University).
