Director for the Massey Agrifood Technology Partnership

School of Food and Advanced Technology

An industry-focused, yet scientifically-led technical researcher focused primarily on storage and logistics of perishable horticultural products.  Clients include New Zealand’s key horticultural export industries, other product industries in development and those industries that service the horticultural sector (e.g. packaging, industrial refrigeration providers, transport providers etc.).  Project themes include the use of cooling, storage and transport technologies to enable export; identification of factors and methods to identify poor storing produce within and between populations of produce; energy analysis of horticultural supply chains; development of packaging to facilitate product protection and suitable temperature control; development of new non-destructive sensing technologies to extract new forms of data from horticultural products; development of mathematical models to understand and predict outcomes in postharvest systems.  I currently have responsibility of teaching undergraduate courses in heat transfer and postharvest science, and supervise a team of 4 postdocs, and 5 postgraduate students.
