- The article titled: “Using Education Theory and Research to Refine Agricultural Extension: Affordances and Barriers for Farmers’ Learning and Practice Change” (ORO10) was chosen as the Journal of Agricultural Education and Extension (JAEE) Education and Learning Sciences best article for the year 2017. The paper examines the factors that support and hinder farmers’ learning and investigates farmers' actual practice changes having participated in our socioculturally informed learning programme. The affordances for learning and practice change include: belonging in a learning community, enhancing self-efficacy, engaging with scientists, and reinforcing and validating learning Our team won the JAEE 'paper of the year 2017', with journal editor Angela Pachuau, saying: “The Editorial committee congratulate you and your co-authors for presenting an interesting paper. Your research provides useful insight with a deliberate attempt to advance educational theory in the field of agricultural extension.” (28 November, 2017) This wider research project has impacted the learning and practice of 45 farmers and has led to 10 conference presentations (nationally and internationally) and 6 publications in conference proceedings. - Journal of Agricultural Education and Extension Wageningen University & Research, Social Sciences Gp (2017)
- Received International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning editors’ choice Best Article, 2011 award for “Examining motivation in online distance learning environments: Complex, multifaceted and situation-dependent” (see N01). The award was based on quality, relevance and value to the discipline as well as the number of times the article has been downloaded. - (2011)
