Bachelor of Veterinary Technology Pre-Selection

Open doors to your veterinary career

Massey University’s Bachelor of Veterinary Technology opens doors to a vast range of careers in the veterinary and animal-related industries. The pre-selection semester is the first step towards studying this degree.

What is it like?

The BVetTech is a three-year degree that is divided into a pre-selection phase and a professional phase.

Pre-selection phase

The Bachelor of Veterinary Technology pre-selection phase is a one-semester programme that you must complete before applying for the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (professional phase).

It takes place over Semester One (beginning late February each year).

During this phase, you’ll complete a range of selection assessments and take pre-requisite courses for selection (or alternates if you are given credit for these courses).

Professional phase

To be accepted into the professional phase of the BVetTech, your grades from the pre-selection semester, along with the results of your selection assessments will be used to compile a ‘selection score’ and ranking for the selection panel to review.

The professional phase of the BVetTech programme starts in semester two (July) of your first year. If you are selected into the professional phase of the BVetTech programme, you will take a range of courses covering everything you need to become a qualified veterinary technologist.

Applying for the BVetTech

There is a separate application for each phase (pre-selection and professional) of the BVetTech, but not every applicant will need to complete them both.

Before you apply, you can review information on requirements, determining what type of applicant you are, and details of planning your study on the BVetTech planning page.

  • Pre-selection application - When you are ready to apply for pre-selection click on the “Apply Now” button on this page.
  • Professional phase application - When you are ready to apply for the professional phase, you will apply through the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology planning page as below.
